Wings To Fly

It was the fall of ‘94
Our world came crashing down,
Tears streaming down my face,
As you waved good-bye

Here we were,
All on our own,
No place to call home,
Not knowing which way to turn,

What we didn’t know then,
Was that you gave us wings to fly,
Faith to believe,
And courage to carry on,

Years gone bye as we go our separate ways,
Little ones of our own,
As fears of not being enough,
Haunt our minds,

Time goes on,
Missed calls,
Missed texts,
And I love you’s

But what we didn’t know,
Was that you gave us wings to fly,
Faith to believe,
And courage to carry on,

Got a phone call today,
Saying you were sick,
I sat there contemplating what to do,
As memories flooded my mind,

As the phone was held to your ear,
I said I love you,
As tears ran down my face,
I tried to be brave,
I tried to be strong,

But what I didn’t know,
Was that you had already,
Given me wings to fly,
Faith to believe,
And courage to carry on,

I sat there on that plane,
Begging God please let me get to her,
As we landed the phone rang,
Saying you were gone,

As I tried to be brave,
I felt the eight year old girl disappear,
Looking back through that backseat window,
As the tears streamed uncontrollably down my face,
I said good-bye,

As you had already given me
wings to fly,
Faith to believe,
And courage to carry on!
