Spectrum of Emotions

My smile is a spectrum

Of many hidden meanings

For most it means I'm happy

But I know its just pretending

It slants the truth you see

It seems to fool so many

Its cover up is so much fun

A game that's playing with me

You would never guess if I was mad

My feelings so well hidden

So the game proceeds right on

And then you laugh like I was kidding

I try so hard to frown

But all I'm left with is a smirk

I know it's funny to you

But now you're acting like a jerk

See now I just sound crazy

I'm talking to my smile

This insane game needs to stop

At least for a little while

I'm sitting here waiting

For my emotions to show through

I'm really frustrated

But there's nothing I can do

I can holler, I can yell, I can even shed a tear

I might as well give up

Because I'm mad

Ooo look I smiled there

About this poem

I always felt like I had to smile all the time and push down any negative feelings. I never wanted to burden anyone with my problems and it was very unhealthy for me.
