You are NOT my friend
In the middle of the night, you came
My body-I could not defend
You are like a pool of darkness
A mutated black cloud
You invade and steal rest
While you keep your stay...
Smiles and joy diminishes
While those around you try to be brave
You are not my friend
I do not want you here
This is not how life is to be spent
With every step in the door
I extinguish you from my life
Now and forever more
You must NOT come back
At any time, any shape or form
I beg you, lose my track
Your name must not be heard
This is my prayer
That you may be gone for good!
About this poem
Written for my dear friend, Sonya who got cancer. She had been an activist for years to help others, and then one gloomy day, she too, heard the devastating words, "You have cancer."
