That Could Have Been Me

I'm sitting here listening to someone share the death of  An addict. All I'm thinking  Is that could have been me,  that could have been me that died in that dope house,Trapped in a trap, forever .
In my addiction thinking I had another day, another chance, to do that happy dance ,To see myself living clean and serene ,dope free .I'm thinking that could have been me that could have got my pockets picked through ,walked over like a piece of trash, dead and gone .Knowing I had struggled for so long to get free of these drugs that I hate so much ,But I just can't seem not to touch,  That could have been my family ,my brother  my mother ,my kids that hate what I did to myself, cuz I didn't want the help that was freely given and there ,but I didn't care.  I thought I had another chance, another day, that eventually I would find my way I'm not going out like this like this, like a feign ,That they write about in magazines . I'm better than this .man f*ck this shit!  So today as I sit and listen and think that could have been me that  OD'd  ,not never getting to live out my dreams, damn that could have been me.
