Ricochet

Tonya Dale Cope 1952 (San Antonio)

Twisted feelings unwind slowly
Many knots to untie
The last one left raveled
The final goodbye
Battling words we spoke
Now seem such a waste
Ending not forgiving
Burnt morals to taste
I offer you water
A cup to restore
Pride swallowed so vainly
Refill once more
I ask for forgiveness
If only to heal
A friendship left wounded
Not to rebuild
I cannot replenish respect
With words that I stole
I can only replace memories
The new from the old
With these words I give you
My thoughts of today
I regret what happened
And its ricochet
