Rainy Days

Cardboard palaces shred
onto the cold, grainy concrete
Their spittle runs raggedly
along the street
Huddled, grizzled faces -
the sexless aggregate
cannot find shelter from
the rainstorm’s gruesome
powers.
Sidewalk silhouettes shiver,
invisible in their shrouds of rain

Umbrellas serve as blinders,
hiding uncaring eyes from the pain

Warm, well-dressed women
tiptoe their Ferragamos
around puddles...
inward-turned thoughts
that does not include the huddle
of humanity shivering... miserable

Blind, bitter eyes see nothing
but what they choose,
and the misery of human suffering
is the first thought they lose.
