Point of Debarkation

There's an old house
near the end of an old road
You'd think the road
had been often traveled
Who knows..?

And surely the house has been lived in
you can tell, it's weathered and torn
But where is the one who lives there
have they left the place they were born?

Some say they heard a groan one night
in a tone of complete content
It is also said that a door was closed
and they walked down the road to the end

But in truth, it is only known to a few
they walked not to the end, but past
And the few that know went before
but they'll not be the last

For you see, this house is a way station
many stop by here
That's why there is a light left on
to ease remaining fears

And all who pause at this way station
are not here for long
Because all who have followed their footsteps
have left this place for beyond…
