Miracles Among Us

"There are no miracles anymore."
she wiped her eyes and shut the door.
I saw her crying thru the screen.
The moments passed and in between
her daughter sang upon the step
   The daughter sang
   The mother wept
I turned around to gently say
"The miracles just went out to play
They're playing ball or in the park
They'll come back home when it gets dark
To tell us all they did today
The miracles just went out to play
Their easy laughter fills the air
they're running in from here and there
To make an empty house a home
to show us we are not alone.
   True miracles from up above
are here among us, gifts of love."
Our eyes met thru the dusty screen
a silent message passed between
Some simmering spark of time eternal
awoke within her heart maternal
She smiled and heard her daughter sing
and then she said a simple thing...
"Come back tomorrow, we'll have tea
just you, my miracle, and me.

About this poem

A poem about how we can get so bogged down in overwhelming worries and fears that we forget to appreciate what we really have.
