beautiful

Gaynor Adonis 1982 (Cape Town)

        'beautiful'
I can count my flaws but where do I begin
I have a crooked nose and I look quite cross eyed I suppose
I am fat and flabby my clothes are never chic but rather shabby
My teeth can never be mistaken for being straight and my hair is always in an unruly state
My ears are also quite small
I am short and not astutely tall
I will never be beautiful to those who judge and criticise
True beauty lies within is in actual fact what one should realise.

About this poem

This poem is a humorous take on how I perceive myself. In society there are many beauty standards to uphold I don't uphold any of them.I am just authentically who I am flaws and all and I am ok with that.
