Sacrilege

A child is sacred

This is quite simply true

Yet this country I live in

Doesn’t have a clue

The children whose bloodlines

Are descendant from these lands

They get treated like they’re lesser

Ripped out of their loved one’s hands

A child needs their family

This is quite simply true

Families that are struggling

Love their children too

The trauma that they endure

From sources so very numerous

This has to be changed

The fact that they are given less

A child belongs with their family

This is quite simply true

Days and weeks and months on end

They have to make do

They have to make do with separation

Or with lessened education

With less access to medication

We have to stop this, pay reparations

We have to stop this

Or young blood’s in our hands

If we’re truly people

We will need to take a stand

Every child is sacred
