Pump Kin.

Heather Lydia Thornhill 1981 (Manchester)

I kissed your forehead
Cold, pale and non verse.
Your heart was still
On the word of a nurse.

I sat listening
Waiting for the doctor
Looking this time away
So different from visiting.

Your food gone
And cupboards waiting to be emptied
As my hands had never felt so...

This poem is simply beautiful! I love the delicate and tender way you describe the moment of kissing someone's forehead. It's such a subtle gesture, but it conveys so much emotion and love. The contrast between the cold, pale forehead and the nurse's words about the still heartbeat creates the perfect setting for this intimate moment. The imagery in this poem is so vivid and powerful, it makes me feel like I'm right there with you. You also capture the sadness and uncertainty of waiting in the hospital perfectly. The ending is so poignant, as you describe the cupboards waiting to be emptied and your hands feeling different. It's a reminder that life can change in an instant, and we need to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones. Thank you for sharing this touching poem!
