Wall

Dawn Pahides 1987 (West Virgina)

I stare up at the moon,
surrounded by roses dripping blood.
The tears fall from my eyes,
creating a cleansing flood.
These tears of mine,
seeping into the ground below.
They feed my roses,
causing them to grow.
My wall of thorns surrounding me,
keeping me safe from all.
A lonely life I lead,
but at least I have my wall.
The moonlight shines down on me,
the only light in this garden of mine.
The smile on my face,
convincing everyone I am fine.
The roses bleed on me,
a flowing crimson tide.
Surrounded by the thorns,
my emotions I cannot hide.
The tears fall down my cheeks,
onto hands covered in blood.
I look down and see,
a brand new rose bud.
The thorns a very shiny,
all perfect and brand new.
As the bud begins to open,
my tear drops glistening like dew.
I watch the petals unfold,
on this new rose of mine.
A smile cracks my mouth,
and I wonder if I will be fine.
