The Forgiving God
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
The Lord executes righteousness,
Justice for those who are oppressed;
Compassion having graciousness,
For all of those that have confessed.
He has made known about His ways,
About His acts to the people;
For anybody that obeys,
Worshipping Him in His temple.
He is merciful and gracious,
Abounding in His steadfast love;
Looking upon us as precious,
Plenteous in mercy thereof.
The Lord always slow to anger,
And He will neither always chide;
For people who will not languor,
By continuing to abide.
He keeps not anger forever,
Nor according to our sin;
Rather iniquities sever,
As confession will cleanse within.
For as high as Heaven above,
Towards all of those who do revere;
So great will be His steadfast love,
When they are humbled and sincere.
As far the east is from the west,
He removes our transgressions;
And ensuring that we are blessed,
When we have sincere confessions.
As a father shows compassion,
Showing pity to his child;
In a veneration fashion,
Past transgressions reconciled.
Because the Lord knows our frame,
As He remembers we are dust;
While He knows you by your name,
Has compassion for those who trust.
