Nothing Other

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

It is nothing other,
But the color of one's skin.
And the image of it that is given.

It's nothing other,
But the image of colored skin...
Some pretend for them it isn't.

People are made to judge each other,
By color.
And nothing more to obsess.
As to who has colored skin possessed.
With a labelling to identify,
Whose brains are used...
To determined the depth,
Of a compared thinking process.
With a doing to have more rhythm.
In hips twerking into a hypnoticness.
Soliciting visuals of thrilling sex.

People have been limited to visions,
Of skin color, lust and sex.
And who has been blessed to do this,
Better than others.
To allege it and suggest.
Enough to bring,
Democracy and its entitlements...
Destroying the quality of a way of life.
Because of the color of one's skin,
That is neither...
Charcoal black, alabaster white.
But...
Brown!

'What is all this division,
Conflict, bigotry and racism about?'

'Choices God has made to create us!'

'Come on.
From your point of view,
I am asking your serious opinion.'

'Oookay.
Let say it another way.
This tremendous unseen Entity.
Created this reality we call life.
And...
As I jump up and down.
To roll around on the ground.
With an acting as if,
I have lost my mind.
Many living in their homes.
Who may or may not be,
Hitting their heads against brick walls.
Wondering what is going on.
Is a doing this Entity has done.
Some have called Earth.
And...
Believe this or not,
Few can explain...
Why this Entity enjoys driving us all,
To react as if...
Some have been chosen to be crazier,
Than others.
With a wish to make skin color...
Their reason to go completely nuts!'

'This assessment of yours,
Is both offensive and appalling.'

'I know.
You're not the only one,
Who has told me...
My social etiquette lacks,
Both in grace and acceptable pretense!
But you know what?'

'What?'

'I am a method actor.
And never in my wildest dreams,
Did I think my performances...
Would attract,
Such disgusting appetite for it!
Who knew?
God knows, I didn't.
Not a clue did I have!
One day I awakened a colored man.
Believe me.
I wouldn't lie to you!
Now...
Is this explanation more helpful?'
