A Boy's Tomorrow

Remember as a kid we played so hard ?
Skinning our knees, playing on our tricycle,
Never playing in my backyard
And sucking on an orange pop sickle !

Life was meant to be play and fun
On swings, tidder totter, scooters, wagon and high bar
Homemade things like making a wooden gun,
Hide and seek, cowboys and Indians and pedal car.

Making sand castles in the park with wood paddles,
Blowing bubbles with my chewing gum !
The silly word was " Fiddle Diddle "
One word to describe my life was having fun !

But to spoil it all, we had to grow up
And that dreaded word was called school !
We had to be neat with a daily checkup,
Life was beginning to be a little cruel !

But riding a real bike was my delight
To have a paper route to make money.
Life was  beginning to be all right,
I still loved the Easter Bunny !

The saddest part was to get older,
I could not play any more as a kid,
Getting taller, liking girls made be bolder,
But Gee Whiz, growing up was not the answer !
