A God Above

Let a God above be privy to my secrets,
Watch me from afar and judge me.

Let this "God" dictate my life,
The way I should live it.

May this "God" see the trials and errors,
The mistakes and burdens of our lives.

Let this, this deity, this all-powerful individual
Who "adores" the human race
Keep his divine powers to himself.
Let innocent people suffer
And good people die.

He is evidently a monster. A demon,
Not the policer of good and evil.

Which has me asking,

God? What god? What kind of God
Obscures themselves so craftily?
To hide themselves is odd;
'God' is an enigma to the human race.

Tell me, what kind of God watches
His people wage war against one another?
Enlighten me, what kind of God
Releases the likes of Hitler upon this world,
Ending his reign without punishment?

Is it too much to ask for divine intervention?
Sounds like divine abandonment to me.

Never will I pray to a God who never shows,
Or become his mindless follower.

God, God, God. Let this "God" be.
Oblivious to our plights, "He" is not
Deserving of our unwavering devotion.
