Palming a Pinecone

I have to wake up and see myself. so
pleased to dream, seeping into skies.

sunrise might explore us, the wingspan,
the lonely warriors.

much an attitude to win, many chafe
and in pain, the dryness of the glee.

a heart died to scream, to pursue
happiness, we became believers.

arise, I have said, soar, I have sworn,
much has been met with resistance.

I can’t help but smile, can’t help but
giggle, with tension intensifying.

into a vision, a scare, into topaz
dreaminess.

words as minerals, wordsmiths as
aliens,
the gift we love has become a
nuisance.

to reminisce, one heart-ear soaring, a
deck of phonogram cards.

the true belief is in a true friend, it’s
hard to maintain.

winds are speaking. seagrass is bearing
witness—to waves, seabirds, and siren
mermaids.

to swim the seas, to establish sea beliefs,
ships filled with smokestacks.

I was wrong, so many times. I would
repent,
where testimony meant so little.
