Covid Lapping At My Bones

Covid Lapping At My Bones

Crowning covid, taking bites, as it washes, wanders, to and fro
Up and down, tides of life, ebbing, every other month, naturally peaking
Minding its own businesses, over running tired human environments

Randomly changing our genetic key codes, mindlessly it seems
Making changes happen, in days, months, or longer, like in years
Making its mark, carved in records, as ball players love to play
If only it was a game, with no more importance
Than an old dead shoe, floating on muddied waters

Leaving wakes of destruction, as follows all human beings
Like all good people, who turn their heads, and walk away
So satisfied, I've aged ten years, in just a matter of days
Our tickets punched, grave yard plots, our destinations all the same
