In Darkness Hiding

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

By the time most people,
Awaken to realize...
There is a difference made,
Between a Sun that sets.
And a dawning in the morning,
That a Sun arising...
Upon the horizon affects,
An ease that should not confuse anyone.
To accept...
Shadows sought to hide in them.
Is needless to do,
In the darkest of night.
Fearing to be seen and caught doing,
By those who already know...
The sneaking and cheating capabilities,
Of someone seen publicly...
Practicing their misdeeds,
In the midst of broad daylight.
Believing to assume not to be noticed!

'OH, MY GOD.
YOU NEARLY SCARED ME TO DEATH.
Why are you sitting on the toilet?
In the bathroom alone.
With the light off and door closed?'

'I didn't want anybody to see me.'

'SEE YOU?
Even with the bathroom door closed,
You are suspected to be...
Somewhere.
Incapable to find the air freshener.'

'Where is it?'

'I came in here to get it.
In that cabinet under the sink.
But no.
You were too afraid,
The light would destroy your 'creations'.
Yet...
Kept to do to yourself,
Has to involve me...
The dog and cat.
Outside doing their best to breathe!'

'Will you stop exaggerating.'

'AM I?
You hear that?
You hear the coughing and sneezing?
The dog is the one coughing.
And the cat is sneezing.
I am in no mood to provide,
Proof and evidence!
Don't move.
Stay where you are.
Until I find the sage.
And begin to smudge this place!'

'You and your...
Beliefs.'

'You and your...
Creations.
Physically or mentally.
Are not kept odorless.'

'Ooohhh.
It's coming.
I feel it close and coming.'

'Let it out.
Goodness!'

'Are you sure?
I'm about to laugh.
I can't hold it back.
Spray it with the air freshener.'

'You need help!'

'Well...
Your face indicates,
It would be a waste of my time...
Yelling to be rescued by you.
If you're going to stand there like that.
At least turn off the light.
Even Mother Nature has forgotten,
Why I came in here in the first place.
Turn around.
Turn off the light.
Walk through that door.
And then close it.

And people wonder why they see me,
Doing weird and strange things...
In broad daylight.
If they only knew,
The comfort I feel doing it...
Mostly to expect to be ignored.
Than in my own home.
Where even being alone in the bathroom.
To choose to sit in the dark.
Begins a confrontation.
As to how what I do to do it and why.

And folks talk about,
Who is more likely...
To initiate spousal abuse!
With a handcuffing the men.
Found guilty for attempting to prevent,
Craze and a lifetime of insanity.
And not cementing close to shut,
The aggravating mouths of women!
Who seem to have been born and raised,
To establish themselves...
As benefactors of life insurance policies.
Mysteriously found and kept,
In the woman's possession.
