Up the Down Side

I feel a world within me
unrelated to the one on which I stand
I am the universe to the world inside
I shape the land I roll the tide

The world took no joy in my first  breath
nor will it weep as I lay down
but the world within will shudder and die
for its fate is bound tightly to mine

I stand in two separate worlds
with no bridge from one to the other
and unless I learn to live inside out
I’ll smother in my world of doubt.
