Prevalence

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

So many are claiming,
Violence, crime, lack of discipline...
And no respect for authority at all,
Describes today's rude and rootless...
Crazed and mentally unstable children.
You're among the elders.
To have seen, lived and witnessed...
The times changing rapidly.
How do you feel about what's going on,
These tumultuous days we live.
From your point of view,
What are your observations.

'Seriously?
You want to know,
From my point of view...
My observations.'

Yes, please.
If you don't mind.
I wishing to hear,
From someone of your...
Youthful appearing,
Glowing defying age...
What do you see to observe,
That is gone and no longer common.

'Nothing really.
The only I thought out of the ordinary,
Was this German Shepard...
Asking for assistance from the librarian,
If the library had a more updated...
Encyclopedia to use,
For a thesis..
He was attempting to complete.
To obtain certification,
For his Doctorates' degree.
And I thought that was strange.
Because he was holding...
What appeared to me to be,
One of those fancy cellphones!'

'Uh...uh...'

'Don't say a word.
The librarian looked at me,
As if the German Shepard...
Was with me.
And I told her,
I had seem him around.
But, I don't know him personally.
Then I left when they began to argue.
I've got enough on my mind as it is.'

'I can imagine!'

'I...
I kinda doubt you can.'

'Oh?
Why do you say that?
I had a talk,
With the mother of two squirrels.
Living in a tree near where I live.
And I asked her...
Why did she name her twins Oscar.
Both of them.
Named Oscar.
And you know what she to me.
You will not believe this.
You know what she said?'

'I...uh...do I have a choice!'

'Wow.
She almost said the same thing.
She said...
She needed a way to know who was who.
Then she went on to say,
They were fraternal twins.
One was a girl the other a boy.
What do you think about that?'

'I absolutely am asking myself,
Why it had to be you I approached.'

'Hey, hey hey.
Don't cry like that.
It's the magnet within me.
My first wife had a similar reaction.
But she just stared at me.
As if transfixed.
She thought I was meditating too much.'

'I think you misunderstood her!
She could have said she thought,
You were medicating too much.'

'That's a bunch of bull.
She was the one seeing a psychiatrist.
Not me.
Talking about,
She was doing all she could...
To save our marriage.
Can you believe that?
And all of 'this' and more,
Was hers for the asking.'

'Here.
Take my card.
There is something about you,
I have got to videotape!'

'Hey...
If I was younger like much much younger?
I wouldn't hesitate to jump on this offer.
But the Sun doesn't rise,
Upon the horizon like it use to do.
And...
When it is time for that Sun to set?
You may be still awaiting for it to rise.'

'I just want to interview you.
Trust me...
Nothing intimate or sexual.'

'Hold up.
I think the Sun,
Has rapidly experienced...
A climate change.
Gotta go.
You behave.
And stop attempting,
Trying new ways to pick up...
Magnetic, age defying dudes like me!'

'Please.
Give me a brake.
And cool off that deflated engine.'

'Hey.
Suit yourself.
Your opportunity to throw 'this' away?
Will leave you...
Lusting for my touch,
And I will call you to remind you of it!
Prepare...
For the pressure,
Of my prevalence.'

'LOL...
Thank you for the warning!'
