The crossing

Tom Squires 1960 (Syracuse)

I can't look for you there or anywhere,
I can only find you without looking.
My heartbeat strengthens,
as I enter some bright room somewhere.
Then you thought it was discovered,
some unlocked door where wisdom abides,
and patience reveals answers.
To wake and find the cool of morning,
while in my mind I hug my children each.
We check our plan and gauge how steep the climb,
and give all to this day.
And we find encouragement,
even as we find our friends,
somewhere along the path.
