Fork in the road

Down this beaten path to a fork in the road.
This may not be the place I intended to be.
My soul has become empty, it needs to reload.
This is not what it means to be free.

Which path should I choose, which way to go?
People tell me that I should follow my heart.
Every time i do that, it takes me so low,
I always end up right back at the start.

This fork in the road is a familiar place.
Somewhere in my mind I have been here before.
But what did I choose, what challenge did I face?
Does it really matter to know what's in store?

My brain says go left, my heart says go right.
My soul says go straight through the rough.
As confused as I am I still need to fight.
At this point in time, will it still be enough

Once I have passed this fork in the road,
More journeys and lessons ahead i will face.
I'm sure once I'm through, my wisdom will grow
This fork in the road keeps my knowledge in place.
