THE YELLOW PERIL

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

The yellow peril
Coming to another town,
Ready to spread fright.

Seeing healthy folk
It touches them unseen,
And yellow pustules grow.

Hideous boils
Yellow and suppurating,
Spread by a tiny imp.

Tiny yellow imp
Who travels around the globe,
Spreading horrid death.

The yellow peril
Laughing in glee at the fear
And terror it brings.

It spreads smallpox
A once extinct disease,
The peril is bringing back.

Bodies covered in boils
Spreading disease afar
Devastate the land.

But soon the imp tires
And moves on once again,
To inflict a new town
