EVIL AFTER MIDNIGHT

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Loathsome creatures hunt
Throughout the streets and alleys,
After darkfall slowly descends
Smothering the light of day.

Monstrous creatures calling
As through the dark, they're lumbering,
While safely tucked up in bed
Guileless folk are slumbering.

Vampires circling overhead
As, below werewolfs are calling,
Blue Men and egrigores lurk
While evil shoggoths are squalling.

Crawlers leave an acidic slime
That marks their loathsome path,
While hidden within the shadows
Atrocities hunt through the dark.

Wyvern and night gaunts shriek
As through the night, they fly,
Seeking out human meat
As innocents are passing by.

Horrors of all persuasions
Are hunting out human prey,
Hoping soon to rudely feast
Before the light of a new day.

Abominations closing in on
People they soon hope to kill,
While on the town's outskirts
Foul behemoths loudly shrill.

Evil soon after midnight
Fills up the empty town,
As Manticores fly just above
Horrid burrowers underground.

Wise folk quickly leave this place
Within the early morn,
Fleeing for their very lives
Soon after the break of dawn.
