Approved Influences

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Undergoing upclose to microscope,
With scrutiny...
Someone doing nothing else,
But being who they are.
Neither trying nor wanting,
To be anyone else.
Can be a painful probing done.
To those who awaken to discover...
Everything they choose to do,
Has a limit that restricts...
Unseen to make it obvious,
A censorship interpreted...
That has reached the boundaries,
Of consensual and approved...
Influences.
Wished and sought it,
Immediately disapproved.

Blemished is the scarring done,
To the ones who live...
Hoping their impressions,
Stay unscathed to be saved.
By the quick pace of changes made!

Artists pioneering,
Their artistic expressions.
Are sometimes told yet often not.
When they have reached,
Acceptable tolerance...
For their visions to publicly expose.
If not thought appropriate,
To appease the status quo.
You know...
Those who seem unable to let go,
Of times reminisced...
To believe themselves ageless.

It has to be,
The addiction of fiction...
That sweetens delusions to keep fresh.
What else explains,
An easily gain entry...
Through the doors of denial?
If truth and the reality of it,
Has to be accompanied by a giggle.
Or a teasing done?
To have many feel,
A relief the message is kept discreet.
Secretly.
In the depths of one's private,
Exclusively visited privately to fantasize.

Bold, upfront and bared revelations?
Most ignore,
If to witness these days...
Everywhere.
To observe masqueraders,
Charading disbelief.
On suburban and urban streets.
Seen stopping to display,
Shock and dramatic horror.

Although and yet,
In controlled environments...
Where people can not accept,
What they see to hear or read to object?
Offended they become.
By the bare nakedness of it.
Especially if children are involved.
To be nowhere around.
But socially are near it.
While their parents decide,
What to approve, when and where.
They find appalling and disgusting.
To discuss with others,
Equally pretentious and aware.
Of their own contributions to patronize,
A decadence they have chosen.
More denied with lies told.
To themselves.
Claiming children they protect.

And...
Know exactly where to go they do.
To find it...
Upsetting, appalling and disgusting.
Over and over.
Until they come to agree,
They have had enough of the filth.
Done to bring more attention,
To what it is...
Their now to have grown 'kids',
Grew up to find ridiculous!
Although...
Like their parents,
Dramatically perform disbelief.
If it means achieving status!
With a nose upturned,
Upon those familiar with fakers!
