ALPHABETTING

Ray Eden 1959 (Hackney)

ALPHABETTING

If you learn your ABC
You're set up to spell cab
And DEF will get you fed
Although that's rather drab

GHI will give you hig
But nothing much that's meant
And JKL will leave you with
A word you must invent

MNO will give you nom
Or mon if that's your thing
But PQR aren't wunderbar
For spelling anything

STU will give you sut
No meaning there at all
And WVX are consonants
So no words come to call

Y and Z are much the same
As anyone can see
And one might wonder why on earth
We learn our ABC.

About this poem

It's a poem I wrote after it was pointed out to me that the alphabet would still work, no matter what order the letters were presented in. It's a bit of nonsense, but it makes me smile.
