Prince of Peace
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
There will be no gloom who anguish,
In former time brought in contempt;
As many people will languish,
That the latter time is exempt.
The people that walk in the dark,
Will be now seeing a great light;
It shines guiding where to embark,
As long as you keep it in sight.
You have multiplied the nation,
You have increased within its joy;
Harvesting from its creation,
The spoils of gladness employ.
For the yoke upon His burden,
From the rod of His oppressor;
That is coming from the heathen,
And enticed from an aggressor.
For each boot of a warrior,
Has become confused by the noise;
Blood burns as fuel for the fire,
That maybe a soldier enjoys.
For to us a child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
Upon the earth who will sojourn,
Before departing to Heaven.
Of His government to increase,
To be seated on David’s throne;
Ruling through everlasting peace,
Justice resting on Him alone.
