The wonder of Christmas
It is good to take time to wonder.
Stop all our busyness and ponder.
To sit down and to try to work out.
What Christmas is really all about.
Nothing like this had happened before.
Angels gazed down from heaven and saw
that God Himself had come to this earth.
Born there in the stable by virgin birth.
Zechariah wondered how it could be
that Elizabeth could have a baby.
But this was a part of God’s great plan
for John to precede the Son of Man.
Mary pondered the things she heard
all had been prophesied in God’s word.
A son would be born by virgin birth.
God himself would walk upon the earth.
Joseph wondered at these great events
as he and Mary became parents
to the Messiah the promised one
God’s One and Only Belovèd Son.
Shepherds went to see the reason why
the angels had appeared in the sky.
Then in wonder they looked down in awe
As God clothed in human flesh they saw.
In wonder Simeon held his Lord
whilst speaking out God’s prophetic word.
Then Anna also began to proclaim
when into His temple Jesus came.
Then the Magi came from countries far
led to Jesus by His natal star.
Brought their gifts and worshipped in wonder
gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.
Joseph wondering what he should do
then revealed in a dream he then knew.
Herod sought to kill his family
so off to Egypt he had to flee.
For this event in earth’s history
was part of God’s plan for you and me.
To come and His life on earth begin
was the His way to save us from sin.
Now I too in great wonder proclaim
that it was for me that Jesus came.
Born on earth to be my Saviour God
when all the way to the cross he trod
