The Ice Cream Men

Bryan McLarry 1994 (Hartlepool)

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream,
Don't flake out or we'll all scream and you'll be cold like the ice queen,
These ice cream men are the cream of the crop,
Just one Cornetto give it to me, you can buy them in the shops.

It'll be your funeral if you eat too much,
Plus your brain will freeze if you decide to rush,
Last night I was like a drunken clown, now I'll have to be more penny wise,
My cash is running low but I can't act surprised.

Strolling around in the vans, feeling like 10 men,
It's hard to converse, talk is cheap again,
About as inexpensive as 99p,
I remember back in the day asking my mam for ice cream money.

She asked me if I want ice in my Pepsi, I nearly creamed my pants,
Sometimes I smoke cones and they make my mind dance,
My poetry holds magnificent magnitude,
To these sweet dealers I show great gratitude.

About this poem

Done after I watched a video of a load of ice cream vans following the funeral car of one of their fallen brothers.
