Just West of Eden

I’m afraid I’ve fallen to Eden,
Yet I’m a little bit too West,
Winter’s here and my feelings deepen,
Winter has got me feeling depressed.

The snow outside is melting,
Yet this numbness hasn’t left,
Nothing I try is helping,
I’m forced to thank God, because I’m blessed.

I’m lucky because I’m here,
That’s the feeling I must express,
Can I take another year,
I keep it going nevertheless.

If they tell me to smile,
Just another one time,
I might just grow a little hostile,
To them, feelings are a crime.

Box up these unnatural emotions,
For that’s what I do as a man,
So I grow this elusive notion,
That God has made me a plan.

Why is it always so hard,
The effort in which I lie,
You always disregard,
I guess I shouldn’t reply.

I sort of hold onto this feeling,
It’s wrong, but it’s mine,
Get me off of this ceiling,
Still climbing up this white pine.

Climbing and climbing away from fate,
I suddenly stop,
Up here life is great,
I’m just a fable written by Aesop.

I’m a fox, and I’m hungry for grapes,
I take a large leap and I miss by a trace,
I stare scornfully at the trees shapes,
I’ll start running just in case.

Running around this place.
