Heroic: part 2

Below Green hills and cliffs of umber
half way thru its 100 year slumber
deep In a cave with a trickling stream
the drake laid unmoving within a dream
alone but for one foolish spelunker
.
It was a rumor at the tavern
that led him to this forsaken cavern.
ornate glove resting upon his gilded hilt
and white steel breastplate over shirt of silk
he searched in darkness for the wyvern

He found the creature unmoving
he could make a cut of his choosing
he picked a spot between the scales
pushed on the pummel and impaled
it lay lifeless, slowly red blood oozing

He went to town and drank some liquor,
his blade still wet with dragon Ichor
he spent the night spreading the word
of the great deed that occurred
and celebrated over golden mead pitcher

Happy with the result of this venture
he left in search of a new adventure
left the town on a chestnut mare
to spread his name elsewhere
oblivious to the encroaching danger

He never thought a dragon’s all meat
or what would happen left out in the heat
ten tons of flesh began to putrefy
and joined the clear stream nearby
reaching the wells below the street

The creature was majestic and taciturn
did nothing to warrant a heroes spurn
his planning was short and vague
resulting in a black plague
now nothing could be done but burn
