Man Down

Rohonda Isis 1974 (Cleveland)

I took his heart out of his chest-
again.
I have made a mess of what was right,
blinded by what was in sight
I took a chance.
The ammunition was in my pocket.
It's always in my pocket.
I pulled it out,
loaded the gun,
and fired.
I have made a mess of what was right,
blinded by what's in sight,
I took a chance.
The first shot didn't do it.
The second one did.
It pierced the aorta,
it punctured my mind.
As his pulse began to weaken
I tried giving mouth to mouth
to resuscitate him,
bring him back to life;
but it was too late-
he flatlined.
