Totengräber

Muzz

As the men rode off to more glory.
I remained, there'd be none for-me.
All love tales of valiant heroes.
Felling a dozen villainous foes.
But someone must deal with the gory.

I turn to see the Sun rise over rooftops.
Lies painted on beautiful backdrops.
Life-giving light revealing instead.
That which glory leaves unsaid.
Honour starts right where peace stops.

The town was broken and dead.
Ground cratered, smells of gunpowder and lead.
Battle was over and all was razed.
Now for my work, always unpraised.
Prayers and graves, after the bloodshed.
