About this poem

The Greek word “Eureka” refers to a joyful and exuberant cry of satisfaction in making a profound discovery that places one in a greater and sharper focus of our understanding of the limitations of self-knowledge. ‘Wise’ Socrates needed help from an oracle to discover the limitations of human knowledge. The folly of our inflated ego deceives us and denies us in having a healthy relationship with our own autonomous psyche that we seem to fear; and which, ironically, is the innermost center of our being with the therapeutic capacity to return us to wholeness. This poem takes the title of “Eureka,” suggesting that one who is willing, is nevertheless capable of experiencing transformative growth and development by engaging in a process of self-realization, and by being courageous enough to center on the healing powers of one’s psyche. This three-line 7-7-7 meter poem implicitly registers that recognition. more »
