Spaced Out

Old friend turned weird and wild
Radical judgment, most disturbing sight
How can I communicate?
He acted most peculiar of late
I love him, learned, earned friend
Miscommunication at the end
Now he's on self-destruct
As if from crazy house now plucked

I'm a helpless observer, sense his pain
Why do so many go insane?
He left his wife, his children he ignored
Friends run away, feel violated, often bored
He's stubborn, yet his own inviolate man
No rhyme nor reason, has no plan

His weird charade will do him in
Once he was respected, oh, what sin
Now by most much neglected
Drinks, pills, depression simply wrecked it
In isolation, session after session,
"Get yourself together, go to some confession
Pray you will recover, be okay!"
Far-fetched see the light of day

For only he can stop and resurrect
Blame it on life, on pressure and too much neglect
Psychiatrist and doctor's medicine in store
New attitude and scenery by self will do far more
It's difficult from darkness to climb to light
Hope, like others who succeeded in this fight
Institutions may give some might
Better than unnecessary funerals, that's right
