Someone's Hero

Parker Campbell 1997 (South Carolina)

What makes someone a hero? Can you and I declare?
They’re not exactly common, or found just anywhere.

They aren’t in Marvel movies. They aren’t in the comic books.
They don’t have massive muscles. They don’t have perfect looks.

Heroes are not born. Heroes must be made.
They start as underdogs, with problems to parade.

But in their course of life, they overcome their flaws.
They strive for mastery, and live by perfect laws.

They conquer what they must, and live to tell the tale.
They struggle to the finish line, but alas, they do not fail.

Through blood, sweat and tears, they change their lives to be,
The ones that others look to, for all eternity.

They aren’t about the glory. They aren’t about the fame.
They want to change their lives, and help others do the same.

This to me is something, might we say heroic.
It’s really pretty rare, and you and I both know it.

But rare as it may be, it’s something that we both,
Can one day soon become. The thing we need is growth.

And if you dare to grow, then others soon may see
A hero when they look at you—the kind they want to be.

It is very heroic what President Zelenskiy is doing right now, putting his own life on the line in defense of his people.
