When you're Hurting

WHEN YOU’RE HURTING
LOOK UP

The first time I experienced hurt, was at a very young age
It was the time when I was supposed to be protected
I was not taught to protect myself; I was taught to look up, be strong
The days of crying so hard, I thought I would never heal from the pain
I was told weeping would endure for today but tomorrow I’d see sunshine
When I look up
The hurt and pain was etched in my soul, so deep that I didn’t know what happiness looked like
It seemed never ending
As I tried to heal from one hurt, three to four more hurts came upon me, more devastating than the first. I would just do as I was taught, look up
Never understood why I was taught to look up, what was up there for me to be looking up
It felt like the more I looked up, the more hurting I would suffer
Today I completely understand why I was being told to look up
What they didn’t tell me to do was
Look up and call on God for healing of the hurt
Now when I look up, I say Thank you God, for never leaving me or forsaking me
When I’m hurting today, I just look up and say a prayer of Thanksgiving
