We Crumble and Decay

Aine 2000 (Ireland)

A crack disrupts the foundations whereon we built our home.
A growing, unrelenting mold. It keeps me up at night, I cannot breathe.
You sit on the front porch, unaware.
You inhale deeply as you gaze upon the rows of rosemary and thyme,
We have almost run out.

The cold floor swallows me whole.
It chokes, I'm too much.
"You taste so sweet, I can't describe it".
Yet I'm never enough.

Teardrops pelt against the fragile panes.
You finally turn to look.
You see me, a spore. Sobbing as I rot the carpet beneath your feet.
I am vicious and unholy, You, an equal to me.
I take the scorn.

I grabble, I grasp. I twist and I turn. It is now you sinking.
The front door looks inviting, but I have swallowed my key a long time ago.
It nestles with my pride.
Yours swings around your neck, you often twirl it in your hand.
My hands grasp around your neck,
You must stay somehow.
