Guarded Emotions

GodofWriters 1992 (Charleston,SC)

Disappointments of rejected consolememts buried pure emotions/ true intentions are forbidden, covered ears never listened/ love letters I’ve burned several leaving my heart hidden/ seeking forgiveness for self, finding no one else/ swimming in my river of tears when I shouldn’t / Significant others Became false lovers/ naive to a dream uncovered by lies unseen/ hoping to relay on things in tangled in strings/ Sensations only become replacements, holding on to what brings us pain/ enslaved by words, truly who do I serve/ lessons I’ve learned caused myself to keep left in a urn/ ashes of unwelcome sadden, kept in captive/ all behind undefined seductive passion/ willing to ignore what wasn’t yours, empty promises created outdated tolerance/ abandonment out balanced my own confidence/ lead to a place I’m uncommon with, now stuck in my ways I’m bottled in / steering clear away from toxic oxygen / expecting my past to knock again, not again will I, when I realized/ telling myself I see why/ understanding my surroundings with great focus, identifying what I should’ve find in those who appeared to have gentle eyes/ not quick to be caring and open, now I guard my emotions......
