Once There Was You and I

Flo Estrada 1974 (Philippines)

Once when there was  you and I

When was the last time we laughed like we don't want time to end?
When was the last time when we held each other and never wanted to go?
When was the last time when your sadness cracked with my funny pokes?
When was the time flower petals poured like raindrops on my doorstep?
When was the last time I cried when you soothe me with the phrase," I am here"?

The time flies so fast, you and I tied the knot.
I  embark on this threshold to hold hands promise never to part.
I fought against all odds, elude everyone's prompt
I  cross boundaries  to extend I lost decency
Compliant amidst knowing your inequity
I stand still regardless of what life with you be like to for anyone to see

Time was convenient by then, but now?

Laughter turned to ice storms
The holding hands became finger-pointing blames
Funny pokes turned roaring thunder, soul shudders
Rains of flowers are pelts and peppers
You are no longer here.
I am alone battling this torture, for you am an attention whore.

Your laughter sounded sarcasm
Your hands no longer have the warmth but piercing my arm
A ruffian who manipulates and controls a farm
The roses you utter disgust, its values  premium
Dating is by persuasion or force,  better to eat dinner at home.
Your presence is vague,  can't even see you, groom
We are two persons living like a stranger in our room.

Once there was you and I. Now, I and myself.
I did not regret loving you though time wasted that I am on the shelf
I could have soared the sky in smiling lips
Independent and free of trauma that you give
Oh,  God forgives me, now I am in relief!

About this poem

When a man is pursuing the woman, he is ready to offer the universe. But once he gets what he wants, he will treat you like a woman is nothing but...
