California Fall

So lucky now, a balance act
There is the constant, warm
California sun, happily diffused
Everywhere, the golden brown hills and autumn trees
Meadows, crops, gardens with lilies
and poppies
And other white interlopers
Over the last blanket of color
It is a rich, somber, yet fruitful season
If only my life resembled this splendid comforter
My heart drums its own rhythm
My mind blown like fireworks in flux
Celebrate nature’s potpourri of gyrating colors
all this
Before the onslaught of winter
Amazing how a little wooden splinter
Or a mosquito bite can bring us down to earth,
Cloud our miserable minds
Poor me! Cure me!
