Moines, vos chants d'aurore ont des élans d'espoir,
Et des bruits retombants de cloche et d'encensoir :

Quand les regards, suivant leur route coutumière,
Montent vers les sommets chercher de la lumière ;

Quand le corps, dégourdi des langueurs du réveil,
Comme un jardin d'été se déplie au soleil ;

Quand le cerveau, tiré des sommeils taciturnes,
Secoue au seuil du jour ses visions nocturnes,

Quand il reprend sur lui la charge de penser,
Et que l'aube revient d'orgueil le pavoiser ;

Quand l'amour, revenu des alcôves aux plaines,
Berce des oiseaux d'or dans ses douces haleines ;

Quand peuplant de regards les loins silencieux,
Les souvenirs charmeurs nous fixent de leurs yeux ;

Quand notre corps se fond dans la volupté d'être
Et que de nouveaux sens lui demandent à naître :
