THE COURTYARD
THE COURTYARD
Far beyond the gloom of shadows and graves,
The sun sheds red through the boughs of the lindens.
The ivory billows, and the rosy waves
Weave in from the nearby, tremulous sea.
The marble, alabaster enclaves
Which cradle the likes of you and me
Exalt the fountains of the square and gardens,
Crowning their immaculate majesty.
For just as love does never force,
Yet glows as the nascent evening arrives
Statues gleam, and leaves take their course
Beneath the azure tinted skies.
While moonlit beams they gracefully endorse
Our eternal love, which rising, dives
Into paradise itself which never dies
Like concertos of rapture and an angel's sighs.
