IF SUCH IS LIFE

Tongue tied, I stand on a bare ground
Like a shadow in the night without word or sound
Lost in despair, the moon darkened at dawn
Like a road with terribly frayed edges abandoned
Nagged by demoralizing questions
With silent tears rolling deep within in sorrow
For life has overturned the tables
If this is what life is meant to be
Then life is full of agony and distress
If at all life means taking the happiness away with a vicious bite
Then life is unfriendly
If only life means battling with terrible illnesses and later facing the last breath
Then life is fate itself
Fate that often gropes into human affairs and strikes where it pains most
If life has period, that short draw-out figure that’s no respecter of calendars and
the clock
Then life is nothing indeed but a walking shadow

About this poem

BOUT THE POEM “There is no pleasure in death however one dies.”- Anania Alick Ponje An elegy that expresses deep sorrow for the loss of loved ones who battled for their survival on their back. Life is described as meaningless. ‘’Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing’
