Glow

Claudia Krizay 1956 (Washington DC)

Glow
(to Emma)

Eyes of demons would penetrate,
As would blades into my heart-
My heart that aches for your return.

I gave to you my inner spirit-
You accepted, with much grace and promise…

I saw illumination peering from
Behind the waning, crescent moon.
You were that illumination.

I feel the power of an upcoming tidal wave-
You gave to me much power.

I see the serenity of a lone creek after a storm-
You gave me that serenity,
As reflected in your misty eyes of Prussian blue.

I see a glow of a flame from a sudden strike of a match-
You had that glow about you,
A flame that led me forward.

I have seen gifts wrapped in brightly colored paper
Tied with ribbons of iridescent gold-
You were and still are that brightness-

You shall always be that glow that drives me
Away from the bleakness of despair,
Giving me the strength to persevere.

You gave to me the courage to carry on
And to keep loving myself,
Long after your passing.
