Hush, Promise

Flo Estrada 1974 (Philippines)

Hush, Promise

He promises to be loving for the rest of their life
Shelter her from any harm nigh or far
Whispers comfort, soul dancing in euphoria
Through hell or high waters, they will hold hands tight.
Grow old in silver hair,  grandchildren insight
Happy as can be, live a happy-ending life.
No more.
As time goes by, the truth unfolds.
Loving has no stars while the moon shines just when he desires
Such shelter is full of cloud darkened thunder hitting like lightning bolts
The comforting whispers are typhoon  blows  displace her whole being
Hell bending to its  lashing and whips she holds tight to God
Her hair is turning silver, oh she grows old fast
An air of arrogance circumvent as if he is adonis
Bow and beg, tears flow river wide
Promise, hush, ends so soon.
Prayer, cease it, please.

About this poem

It is all about a battered wife who believes in the promise and later realizes that she became broken. She is committed to marriage after all her situation yet she keeps praying until the time she wished to end the marriage.
