SUNSET

Oludotun Ijalana 1976 (Nigeria)

Magnificent orange globe of splendor
in romance with the west-sky
On her course as an athlete
Panting with fatigue of tiredness
Expended on a race-adventure
When she peeped from the east-window
To the horizon of the west.
As she submerged into the west-sea
In the dome of the sky
Cut off from the earth's water
To resurrect in the east
In the morrow.
Creatures of night
Creep and crawl
And people of the night held sway
Even dumb plants retire to sleep.
The earth smiles
Morrow will be better
Pregnant with solid achievements.
