Now...Without Further Adieu

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Today?
We have been blessed,
With the presence...
Of someone,
Who can put the challenges we face...
In a perspective that prioritizes,
Where our focus should be placed.
To at least attempt to appreciate,
How best...
We all can meet these challenges.
With an opening our minds a bit more.
To broaden our awareness.
Please welcome to the podium,
Someone who has that vision.
Someone who has seen,
That brighter light.
And...
Comes to us with the right words to say,
In these troubling times we live.

'Thank you.
Thank you all,
For such a warm welcome.
I am both thrilled and made humble,
By your applause.
All of you are more familiar than I am,
With your problems, concerns...
Issues and personal headaches.
Along with other petty stuff.
Right?
I know I'm right.
I see this mess.
As if right before my eyes,
It reaches out to me.
And this you knew,
Weeks, months and years...
Long before I was invited,
To share with you...
Some light on your situations.
And...
From my point of view.
Yes.
From my point of view.
I can not say that enough.
Well...
Maybe just one more time.
And...
From my point of view!
Can you feel me?
You should.
Now...
Without further adieu,
Leave that crap right where it is.
Until after the holidays!
You have done this,
Repeatedly in the past.
And this you will do again and again.
So...
What's the deal?
Get over it!
Thank you.
And to all of you have a good night!'

Uh...
Ladies and gentlemen?
There you have it.
Words of wisdom.
Delivered by one of the most respected,
Admired and beloved civic leaders.
And...
Recently released,
From one of our better...
Rehabilitation centers.
And I know,
I can not be the only one here,
Who had found such words...
Inspiring.
Motivational.
Uplifting, refreshing and profoundly,
Prophetic!
How blessed we were today,
To have such a visionary in our midst!
Right?
And...
As I witness your faces,
Awed into a state of disbelief.
You too will agree...
What we have heard here together,
Had been entirely unexpected!
