Fast Are Times Changing
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
It does not seem to have been,
That long ago.
When many did the best they could,
To grow and accept...
A respecting of others.
Regardless where they lived.
Whether rich or poor.
Race, ethnicity or neighborhood.
Yet, today?
People seem to go out of their way,
To show and display...
Every dysfunction,
They can possibly create.
With a doing to represent,
A consciousness made...
Afraid of using common sense.
As if the doing of this would offend,
The majority of the people...
Who have normalized their madness.
And threatened by the ones,
Daring to question the stability...
Of their mental health.
That has cost at a loss of everyone's,
Way of life.
Although...
Many completely out of their minds,
Believe this to be...
Progress being made successfully!
'You are too old,
To see it for what it is!'
See what?
Racism, division, conflict and chaos?
'Exactly.
In your days and time,
None of this existed.
As effectively as it is being done today.
You just don't appreciate,
The way we move ahead.
To ensure progress is being made!'
Progress?
What progress is madness to accept it?
This nonsense is nothing more,
Than insanity unleashed.
To accept and believe is fashionable!
'And...
Experimenting with psychedelic drugs.
Staying high 24/7.
Disobeying laws and rules.
To refuse to listen to parents.
As well as the authorities to claim,
You had entitlements to do...
Whatever you wanted and pleased?'
But...
I was young then.
To know and later to realize in life,
Making excuses for what was not right...
Would prove to me,
Eventually...
How wrong I had been!
'Gee...
I can't believe what I'm hearing.
You hear it?'
What?
Hear what?
'That sound.'
What sound?
'If I am not mistaken.
It is the sound,
Of a distant orchestra playing.
And...
Getting closer.'
NO.
I don't hear it.
'I do.
And...
I'm willing to bet,
If you close your mouth...
I won't hear it anymore.'
You KIDS!
What are you trying to say to me?
'Ssshhh.
It's amazing.
I don't hear it anymore.
